Hmmm. Question is, are they making "The Hobbit" and "A film to fit between The Hobbit and The Fellowship" or are they making The Hobbit in two parts? If it's the former then it's fine, but if it's the latter then the whole bringing back Orlando Bloom as Legolas thing (amongst others) is only going to go badly I fear.

Huh? Either the first film ends after the Battle of Five Armies and Bilbo leaving the mountain, or it's late in the second film. Can't be both.

The Hobbit is being extended to take up two parts by putting stuff into it _and_ extending the story to lead up to LOTR. So the end of the first movie won't be the end of The Hobbit, but neither will the end of the second movie.

I hope they don't stuff too much extra into the original story. The Hobbit is so perfectly self-contained. I could maybe forgive them breaking the films at the cliff-hanger of Smaug's attack on Laketown and then doing an extra 2/3 of a film, post-Hobbit as it were, although if Legolas, etc, turn up before then I may have to shoot Peter Jackson. Elrond, Gandalf and Bilbo should be the only ones from LOTR that appear in the basic Hobbit.

I like LOTR but there's only so much screwing with the story you can do and making Arwen's role in LOTR so prominent took a while to forgive (whither Glorfindel?) There's no reason at all why Legolas and Frodo should appear in these films (specially as Frodo wasn't even born until some 30 years after The Hobbit took place and Bilbo adopted him years after that).

Well, the assault on Dol Guldur by the White Council (mentioned in The Hobbit) is going to be in the movie, so that will undoubtedly take up some of the time.

I've heard that Frodo will appear solely as part of a prologue, as the person that Bilbo is telling the tale to. But we'll have to wait and see.
