The LED bulb press release seems to be conspicuously missing any mention of how much actual power it consumes.

If they're trying not to admit that it's 95W, not so game-changing!

Fair point - but the stats I've seen in the past for LED seemed to indicate that you're talking 5-10% of "ordinary" bulbs. Have to wait and see, obviously.

I've seen a "building lamp" with a single LED die -- too bright to look straight into. I'm pretty sure it's the equivalent of 100W, and it's for sale in Nijmegen. ;)
I've been thinking about converting my 50W 230V halogen lights to LED, but the cheap LED replacements are crappy -- most have a green tinge which makes people look like zombies. I've found good ones now, and we'll definately be switching. 700W adds up.
