The vocals, driving drums and arpeggiated synth loops sound a lot more like Duran Duran, to my ears. This is new romantic stadium pop, not arch social commentary art-pop.

I'll give you that it's insanely catchy, though :-).

I've heard it compared to Depeche Mode a lot. Can't comment on that because I don't know enough DM for that to know whether or not it holds up or not. This song does have a certain Duran Duran feel to it music wise, though I feel the visuals are more PSB. Whatever way you go, it's totally 80s and I love it to bits for

HUGE Depeche Mode fan.

No... nothing like them.. But yes, very new wave.. I was so confused for a moment- I thought this was an old song, the look and the sound... I was thinking more aplhaville, duran duran... It really freaks me out because it seems a spot on throwback to the 80's, 90's

It is. The 80s have been slowly but surely getting back into fashion the last couple of years. Started more or less with Bloc Party as far as I can see. Given the fact I'm a pretty big of that decade (the good, the bad and the ugly, I not only have a lot of new wave but also have a big Wham collection) I'm not at all that sorry it is. Even if it includes the Black Eyed Peas murdering Time of Our Life by inserting random bits of bad rapping. It's a price I'm willing to pay if I get to listen to stuff like this.
