I'm guessing that woman is not a fan of the Gor books.

You know, I never actually read those, but I can still clearly remember the covers of the ones my brother had on his shelf from when I was a kid.

Putting together a list of fantasy novels that aren't full of rape, objectified women and headbanging misogyny

So they can be burned as degenerate works?

Interesting to see no mention at all of Robin Hobb. Am I the only person who considers Hobb the only fantasy novelist actually worth reading?

I now wonder whether my memories of the Hobb books are completely warped and they're secretly filled with sexism and victim blaming. The trilogy I read had a male main character but I don't remember there being anything wrong with the female characters (and then there was the fool who was neither), and a couple of them were categorically awesome...

I don't talk to fantasy readers/writers on the interweb.

There's a rape in the third liveship book, as I recall; that might be why.

There's also off-stage rape (of multiple women) in the Farseer books.

Although a piece of writing containing rape doesn't make it unfeminist...
