The UKUncut article makes what is on the face of it the obvious point, but I think there's some sense in the comments also (seriously, is the New Statesman the only news site on the internet with civil, intelligent comments?)

I wonder if they heavily moderate them. Continuously kicking people off forums seems to be the only way to have civil debate on the internet.
