Don't suppose by any chance you know of an extension or method for stopping Fx from crashing when I accidentally click an unmarked link to an Mp3 file in the same way that PDFdownload stops crashes for PDF files?

2 minutes for the browser to get passed "not responding", think I need to go into plugins and remove the MP3 players (again) &c but I've no doubt they'll reinstall themselves again :-(

Fair enough--do me a favour and tell me what plugins you've got that can handle MP3s? Turns out I've only got Quicktime installed in Fx, which is the problem as that's a resource hog that takes ages to boot. I've DLs the WMP plugin but you may have something better.

I'm using Quicktime, just because it was already there, and I rarely listen to raw MP3s in the browser, so I've not had a reason to use something different.

(Also, it starts within 2 seconds on my box)

Fair enough, probably a combo of low spec machine and poor settings. I'd love to be able to tell Firefox "only open web pages" but that doesn't seem to work very well. I'll try the WMP plugin at some point. Danke.

You could default to saving the file, and then play it however you like:

Aha, I knew I'd forgotten something--it's now in the separate 'applications' tab, and I think I've fixed that and a few other things.
