I could really have done with seeing this kind of thing when I was a teenager, and had no idea how this kind of thing was supposed to work, or why it was necessary.

Oh thank you for this! I have an adult child who has a speech impairment. His words are fine, but he often misses innuendo and other social cues in a way that is similar to the way a person with an autistic spectrum disorder might.

Thus he needs to do a lot of meta level processing to understand the social cues in language.
