So, this evening we went out to [livejournal.com profile] diotina's birthday party.

This turned out to be a problem, because it's not on until next week.

We have _no_ idea why we thought it was this week. Her actual birthday is tomorrow, but the party is clearly in our calendars for _next_ week.

Nevertheless, it wasn't until we were standing outside her flat wondering why it was all dark in there did we think to look more closely at the facebook event, and wonder what the fuck we'd been thinking when Julie forced an extra few painkillers and a glass of wine into herself so that she could face going outside, and I dragged her onto a bus to the other side of the city in the freezing cold.

Still, good practice for the actual party next weekend, when there will be less drunken rugby fans to contend with.

I've once turned up to a meeting exactly a month late.

To be fair, I was ill at the time it was supposed to be, but I'm not quite sure why I thought it was, instead, a month later. Once I discovered my mistake, I went and joined some friends and handed out pamphlets on the steps of the student union building, said pamphlets complaining about all the people handing out pamphlets on the steps of the student union building.

I recall doing something similar once, travelling to Newcastle for a black-tie ball. I managed to gatecrash an amateur boxing event, and almost managed to barge into the dressing rooms, before I called the organiser and discovered I'd turned up a week early.

Wandering around the centre of Newcastle in a bow tie is not my idea of fun...

A well known sf writer once turned up on our doorstep a month early for a party. I had been puzzled when he accepted because he is usually away at the time of the actual party.

I have no idea what the national (U.S. or U.K.) average might be, but i've done that (or the opposite -- being a week late) twice during my (rather long) lifetime, so you seem to be On Course.

You also seem to be (as if any confirmation were needed after the Links you've posted) My Kind Of People -- in that you mention the gaffe/foible and are amused by it. Some people would react very much otherwise.

I managed to organise a meeting once and failed to be very specific about the location. I thought it was at the client's offices, the client thought it was at mine. Two taxis passed traveling in opposite directions.
