Observation. Top picture is of a much smaller area than bottom picture, clock tower on bottom right of top picture is in middle of lower picture.

Still a very cool juxtaposition, but the parkland shwon in the upper pic has a lot less built on it than the rest.

Did you see this - China is planning to create the world's biggest mega city by merging nine cities to create a metropolis twice the size of Wales with a population of 42 million.

although that now appears to be denied as a bit of over-exageration by the Torygraph

The 2010 pic doesn't look drastically different to the Shanghai I visited in 2001. Even more crowded with buildings (the big bottle opener wasn't there when I visited, for example), but the most extreme changes clearly happened in the first 10 or so years of that (in this particular area, at least)
