Checked my bank account just now (I'll be checking daily for the next few days to make sure nothing bad happens), and discovered two items marked "Debit Card Adjustment" which refund the money taken a couple of days ago. Good to see it sorted so far. I wonder if I'll ever find out what happened.

Another nice thing was seeing [livejournal.com profile] chuma and [livejournal.com profile] meowpurrr last night. Julie and I dropped over the XBox (having completely failed to find the power cable, controllers or games, which are all buried somewhere in boxes), and [livejournal.com profile] chuma fed the three of us some awesome cottage pie, and then we chatted about general geekery (computers, TV shows, comedy) for a couple of hours.

And then we went home and painted the TV shelving unit which holds the cable box/DVD player/etc. Which was nicely satisfying. Tonight we get to sort things out with the joiner, and soon we'll actually have a living room. And then I can stop saying things like that, and I'm sure you'll all be very relieved that I'll stop wittering on about it.

When something similar happened with my credit card, I decided to use the new replacement card only for in-person purchases. I got a different card to use online, one which lets you generate a temporary number for each purchase. It would be very difficult to do fraud with the online one, as each temp number is only allowed to be used at a single store, and only with the limits that you have set for it. At least this way, if my in-person card has fraud activity again, I'll know it was due to a physical store where I used it.

The only difficulty I've had so far with the online card is with Amazon, which uses 3? different merchant names, depending on what you order. So with a multiple-item order from Amazon, my number worked for a few items, but was declined for the rest, and I had to create a separate number for each merchant name, and keep trying until all items were accepted.
