Apparently Yahoo aims to make its search service simpler and more useful than Google. How you can be simpler than a single box on a white background, I don't know. How you can be more useful than displaying the most popular match for a search term, I also don't know.

More here.

Yahoo and Microsoft look at Google and see one thing very wrong with it, and it's the same thing they both see: Google doesn't make enough money for them. Google is simply useful, not a profitable Yahoo- or Microsoft- moneyspinner. It must therefore be "improved".

If Google ever goes public, you'll see it: it will be bought by Microsoft, closed down, and a new "improved" microGoogle site will be opened up. That will be much "better" from the capitalist point of view.

Yahoo! could make their search engine a lot more useful but not filling the first page with "paid" matches. (I'm even close to giving up on their news searches now that they fill that with high-priced pay-per-article matches. Is anyone really willing to pay $3 for a single article?)

In any case, I think Kartoo is actually more useful than Google. I'd use it all the time if it were just a little faster.
