I think possible Andy's commenting on what he sees as the culture that allows these kids to feel this way. If 'gay' and 'crap'/'stupid' weren't still pretty much synonymous to most teenagers then we might be a little further along the path to acceptance and a detachment of stigma from the word 'gay' and the state of being so.

Oh yeah - I get that, and understand that, and disagree with that, BUT I thought there was something specific in the article (or some connected to it that I'd missed) about the connection.
