Livejournal has fixed the Twitter/Facebook comment-posting thing. Which is nice.

I wonder why it's been left on for the Russian users. I assume that they have different priorities.

Well, yeah, it was introduced by SUP devs for the Russian userbase in the first place, completely different use model.

I'm told that a fair few Russian users, including paid users, don't ever post to their journal or comms, they only ever comment, especially on the higher profile blogs, like, say, the President's.

Ergo, they want some way of sharing what they've said with their friends. Completely different use model, completely different use culture. And it's by/for them that a lot of the dev work is being done now.

Given that Cyrillic services is a separate opt-in deal, I've been wondering if it's something as simple as involving a different rat's-nest of code to have to untangle, and the non-C were just yelling about it louder? Although since there's still apparently some question of C-opted users being able to break flock on the non-C, it'll be... interesting to watch where this argument goes from here, yeah...

The demands for journal-level opt-out seem reasonable enough that I can't quite work out why LJ haven't just gone for that.

That's why I'd like to know if there's a coding issue involved somewhere, the level of WTF? involved otherwise is just too depressing to think about...

I wouldn't call that fixed as anyone can opt-in to the Cyrillic services and then has the option to repost stuff on protected entries. In my opinion that's still fucked.
