I really really like Bad Romance, Telephone and Poker Face (as in, I think they're certainly in, or close to the ten best pop songs released in the last decade) but I am curiously unmoved by most of her other tracks that I've heard.

Yeah, she's done some good tracks. Not heard her non-single stuff, but I will do over the next few days, as I now have them on my phone.

Spotify's revenue stream confuses me, since a lot of the ads are just for spotify itself (or artists on spotify).

If it's like most other internet services with free/premium split, then it can't make that much from paid users.

I believe that their premium subscribers went up significantly when the phone versions came out.

And also, the number of ads has gone up (as of about 4-5 months ago) in a manner which suggests they're trying to drive free listeners crazy so that they'll subscribe.
