If someone accuses an individual, or group, of causing division then they are almost certainly using it as a silencing technique.

I've seen this numerous times now, from technical groups trying to avoid people prioritising different needs, to protest movements trying to persuade other protest movements that their needs are lesser, to the Scottish Independence movement, and now Peter Mandelson accusing Jeremy Corbyn of dividing the Labour Party.

People may _highlight_ division, or give a voice to a viewpoint that had previously lacking one. But the division was always there. The mainstream was just happily ignoring the needs of a subgroup, and now they can't any more.
