08:30 - woke up. Showered. Went to breakfast.
09:30 - reported to the Green Room to help out
11:30 - after two hours of fetching drinks and delivering them to distant parts of the hotel feel I have a good grasp of why they call it the Radisson Non-Euclidean.
12:30 - 'Not The Clarke Awards', in which previous judges talk about the nominees, moan that Brasyl wasn't on the short list and agree that Stephen Baxter's "The H-Bomb Girl" should win. Resolve to buy said book.
14:00 Neil Gaiman's GOH speech. Which turns into a short story reading - first of 'Orange', which was very funny, then of the start of 'The Graveyard Book'. And then a quick Q&A, whereby it turned out that Mick Anglo owns Miracleman and Dez Skinn was just making shit up. Oh, and Death will get the go-ahead if he can just rewrite it one more time...
15:30 'Writing the Near Future' with Charlie Stross, Patrick Nielsen Hayden, Justina Robson, Matt Browne and Paul Mcauley. Matt was the youngest writer, and his youthful enthusiasm kept being shouted down by people that had heard it all before and were now terribly cynical about space travel, flying cars, etc.

Now is an hour off, and then I have a choice of either food or "The Appeal of Lovecraft" with Charlie, China Mieville, Marcus Rowland and Roz Kaveney. Which is probably too entertaining to pass up.
Then at 7pm I have to defend the rights of ordinary people to be critics. 9pm is Mitch Benn, 10pm is the disco and 10am I'm leading the reading group.

Oh, the tyranny of choice.

Who just sung for 600 sf fans for an hour and a quarter, and made us laugh an awful lot.

I'll happily pay real money to go see him during the festival.
