andrewducker: (swirly ball of doom!)
The sun is setting on our last day here. I went for a walk with Bex, up to the top of the valley and then back down on a different road to the pier at the end of the valley, where giant black chunks of rock merge down into the greeny-blue sea, and there is nothing further North except Uist and then the open sea.

We stood on the edge of the rocks and talked about university, and the ludicrousness of life, and how people who take life too seriously are to be avoided, and then we wandered on, leaving me momentarily behind a large tree in order to dispose of the tea I'd drunk before we went out.

It's been that kind of day, relaxed, contemplative and laconically conversational.

Yesterday was even more laid back, with very little happening until we headed out to SkyeSkyns to take a look at their tannery and sheep skins. Sadly the tannery was shut, so we couldn't get a tour, but Bex got a fleece to replace the one that belongs to Morag and Morag got some new slippers, which she has insisted the everyone sniff in order to appreciate the smell of fresh leather.

And then we headed on to Portree for dinner in the local hotel. I had succulent lamb shank, which was obviously nicer than your average lamb shank. I managed to get reception for a bit, discovered I had 110 emails, 86 of which were my Thursday group still discussing new armour rules and what God the new party should follow (we're ensuring a measure of party unity by having us all worship the same deity). There were a few personal ones too, including a couple that cheered me up no end and one from Alex, who I shared a flat with at university in 1992/3 and 1993/4. I'm looking forward to reading these properly and replying when I get back.

Then back, where I discovered the TV was refusing to work, putting Mario:Galaxy out of reach. Fortunately, Morag's laptop was working fine, so we could still watch the first two episodes of Battlestar Galactica proper.  I can tell this is going to turn into a 'thing' :->

And then bed, where I managed to sleep in until 11 again, despite being in bed before 2.

I woke up to bright blue sky and rain, one from the window looking out over the valley, one from the skylight. I then realised that I never did get a decent photo of the valley, and then completely failed to remember to take one by the time I'd wandered downstairs. Nobody else was up by then either, but Bex appeared 10 minutes later and we chatted while she made breakfast and I laid table and woke Morag.

We popped briefly into the local village to get bread and mushrooms, discovered that the newspapers didn't come until after 1pm (a shame, as I'm hoping Lilian will be in one or two of them for the malware report she was giving interviews for on Wednesday), and then back again to finish the cooking.

And then the walk, back for more Super Mario on the DS (I'm on the penultimate level, determined to finish it before arriving back in Edinburgh) and chatting.
And now, in the next room, Bex is making roast chicken with bacon and pesto, while Morag plays whack-a-mole on the DS and Bowie sings gently in the background. Galactica later, I suspect, and then time to pack for the homeward trip. Sad and happy at the same time. It's all good.

Addenum: Bex just called me through to smell her breasts. Which were off. So no chicken for us. Luckily we had some pizza in the freezer, so we won't starve to death. Shame though. Especially as I'd just commented that the whole ground floor smelled fantastically of garlic.
