Further Updates

The pipe has been replaced (in two chunks after the corrosion was found to have spread further up than originally thought).  The builders who are going to sort out the joists, plaster, etc. are now booked in - but not until the 10th of December.  Looks like it'll all be over by Christmas.

Of course, we'll then want to replace the carpet in that room, and get it set up so that it's the bedroom again.  Joy...

So is there any guarantee that the pipe won’t corrode further up and, if it does, won't it leak into your flat again?

Nope. But there's not a lot I can do about that unless the upstairs neighbours are interested in ripping out the whole pipe and replacing it.

According to the plumber it's unlikely to go in the near future. So I'm just going to move.

Pretty much everyone else in the building is renting. By the time I get people together to sort out anything like that it'll be January and I'll have been without a bedroom for 5 months. I've gone beyond caring.

Christmas will be with the parents, who are moving home right now, but hopefully into somewhere leak-free...
