Thanks to Q I am now the proud owner of four videos of Red Dwarf. Which I will watch, er, someday.

The gaps are where I don't know/couldn't remember :\

Anyway never mind that because I just wanted to say I SPOKE TO CLARE GROGAN THIS WEEK
twice.

Aha well that would be telling. Nah, not really that secret, she's writing a young-teenage-fiction-kind-of-thing book (series, actually) and my company is publishing it. I was proof reading and sorting out some queries and getting her dedication and acknowledgements and stuff. She's looking fantastic.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

i thought the first few seasons were good, where they concentrated more on script than they did on props. Once they got the money for more props, they seemed to let the scripts slide into nothing special.

Claire Grogan was definately the one and only Kristine Kochanski though *so cute*

Thirded.

The replacement Kristine Kochanski was dreadful and would never have either looked at Lister or been his kind of girl.

Get rid of Kochanski unless it's the original, and drop the self-referencing (Ace, Dwayne Dibly etc).

The Angels & Demons episode is a favourite. Evil Rimmer's first appearance still makes me laugh. :-)

Yes, I agree.

For me, Red Dwarf was at its best during series 5 or 6. That was the point at which the writers had obviously stopped trying to write any serious storylines and just went for all out comedy.

Series 7, when Rob Grant stopped writing it was terrible, but series 8 was a lot better, although not as good as the earlier stuff.

Series 1 and 2 I loved. Series 3, 4, 5 and 6 I really liked. 7 and 8 were mostly painful, particularly 8.

I'm not even sure I've seen more than a tiny bit of 8 or at what point during 7 I checked out. Possibly when Kochanski claimed she still came from Glasgow.

I remember the opening three parter of series 8 quite well, mainly because to just how desperate it was.

Oh... and about the new episode. I'll definitely watch it. If Rob Grant and Doug Naylor get back on board it has potential. If they avoid tedious crowd pleasing it might even be good. For example, Dwayne Dibley was really funny the first time. Not so funny the forth and fifth time.

...at least I *think* it didn't go tits-up till the seventh series. When did the Cat suddenly acquire the Hilarious ability to smell incoming dangers? I seem to remember 6 was already starting to slide, but still largely good. I never gave 8 a chance after watching maybe the first episode and a half of 7.

Couldn't decide about the return. It might be dragging a dead horse back out of its gluey grave for one last flogging, or it might be a chance at redeeming the mistakes of the past. We'll see, I suppose. Or not, if it doesn't happen after all.

I own the first 7 series of Red Dwarf on DVD.
The only thing that would persuade me to buy series 8 is the fact that the logo that builds up on the spines would be finished.

Note: I voted "Bad" for season 1. I think its a weak searies...however, it is very much a series finding its way at that stage, still deciding what it wants to be, trying to work out what the Cat should be etc. Its almost a different programme. Series 7 scraped a good, because it has some fun moments. Series 8 on the other hand is diabolical.

I met Robert Llewelyn once at a book reading. Nice bloke.

And I agree that Claire Grogan will always be Kochanski. Chloe Annet was fine...just not right. Not Kochanski as she should have been.
