Clay Shirky talking about how we spend our free time. I don't necessarily agree that this is going to be a wholesale cultural change, but it's a fascinating set of thoughts anyway, and the figures on "hours society spends working on wikipedia" versus "hours society spends watching TV" are enlightening.

I liked that article, and can see how it can be applied to various phases of my life -- the Fremont Arts Council, Burning Man, zines. Using cognitive surplus to create, produce, and share.

But I think we're in danger of that cognitive surplus being eaten up in things like longer commutes and longer working hours.
