There seems to be a perception that I avoid lots of food due to allergies, and always have an upset stomach.

I remember having an upset stomach once in the last few months, and the only thing I can think of that I avoid because it causes problems is sugar. I also avoid cheese, wine, beer and nuts - but in all of those cases it's because I don't like the taste (well, I'm slowly acclimatising to red wine). Oh - I avoid caffeine purely because I don't drink it often and therefore it works well on me, but that's not an allergy, I just like my sleep. I'll happily down diet coke when I'm out dancing.

In the interests of checking my sanity, can anyone tell me of any allergies I'm unaware of? Or point out an occasion when I've been complaining about my stomach?

Oh - thought of one - there's something in orange squash that makes me feel slightly odd, but I haven't had any in so long that it doesn't register.

You have gone through phases of complaining often-ish of having a sore stomach/ upset stomach/ whatever- maybe it was stress related? so occurred frequently for short periods of time

I think not liking any cheese, or any wine, or any beer, and not eating any sugar (in essence) is quite a big deal to lots of us - so seems a bigger deal than it is to you. I mean, I wouldn't find life worth living without cheese and red wine!
You do complain of minor problems with your body quite a lot - more bleeriness and minor colds in my experience than stomach things. I don't think it's because you're particularly sickly, or hypochondriac, I think it's because you constantly analyse your pyhsical state at an unconscious level and then over analyse any slight flaws or deviations you detect - you;re a bit like a wi fi dev ice constantly scanning for networks! Whereas most of us only really notice/mention our physical state if it's actually giving us a reasonable amount of discomfort as opposed to simply deviating more than normal accepted tolerance from the norm. It's all to\do\with your head being too big:-)

Sorry I just had this perception that you avoided a lot of fodd because it didn't agree with you, which in my head I may have translated to mean 'I have an allergy'. You do however on occasion have a grumble about your stomach and it not feeling quite right.

I haven't heard of many cases where someone doesn't like the taste of nuts. Perhaps that has made some people think you are instead allergic to them. Is it really the taste you don't like (don't different kinds of nuts all taste differently though?) or the texture? There's something about raw pecans and walnuts that makes makes my mouth slightly pucker which I don't like (perhaps that is a very slight allergy)... and I don't like it that nuts tend to stick in my teeth, but I'm fine with the taste.

In order to test your comment about nuts tasting similar, I was inspired to pull out my big jar of mixed nuts and start munching. Because, when just thinking about peanuts, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, almonds, they all invoke different flavors in my mind. I was thinking, they may have a common flavor which is more apparent to someone who does not like the flavor... as in wines, when I think of them, I logically realize that they may taste differently but I only remember the unpleasant flavor.
So anyway, the nuts from this jar aren't as unique in taste as I was remembering, but that may yet be because they've been in the same jar, as well as them having been roasted in the same kind of oil.

I found out that someone else just doesn't like nuts in general the other day, very odd I thought. They seemed to be quite enjoying raw cashews though, which if you think about it are really quite un-nut-like.

Raw pecans and walnuts are a bit weird, I know exactly what you mean - they're just a bit astringent, I think, for some reason.

That is interesting. I've been having some days lately where water doesn't taste good to me, and from reading that page, I now realize that the water seems bitter and astringent to me on those days - it leaves a fuzzy feeling in my mouth. It must be due to something else in my system though, since on other days the same water tastes fine.

I pretty much don't like nuts, except the ones that aren't very nutty - cashews, walnuts, pecans - much nicer because full of FAT!

I don't spend enough time in person to be aware of your food peculiarities (but then I'm used to fussy eaters anyway :P)

Like may of my friends, you post when you're feeling snuffly with a cold, but not with any greater frequency than the rest of us; to me it shows that you find illness irritiating. Can't recally tummy related issues recently....

you were complaining yesterday throughout and after badminton about your cold and its effects on your head, nose, throat etc.

There's nothing wrong with being a hypochondriac and going on about every minor feeling of "wibbliness" as I think you put it.

Like I said in your other post, I'm aware of you going on and on about caffeine (ad nauseum), sugar, wheat, chocolate, alcohol and their effects.

(luv u really, btw, not having a go)
