According to this article 54% of men wouldn't date a woman who earned over £25000.

Or as someone on my friends list said "Earn over £25,000 if you want to weed out the assholes."

I can't find the original post now, so if you want to claim it go ahead :->

And yet my husband always says, "It would KICK ASS if you made twice as much money as I do!"

There's something wrong with a lot of men. I mean ... what the hell?

Earn over £25K, and then you may end up with the goldbricks that my sister ends up with. If they cleaned the house or cooked, it'd be okay.

Well someone has to make up the "below average" half of the population.

My thought precisely.

I'm dubious. If this were true, there would be an abundance of single, cynical, intelligent, high earning women who don't have blue eyes and long blonde hair. Or maybe I'm failing to look hard enough :P

AD claims he'd be perfectly happy to date a woman who earns that much. I am desperately trying to make him have to prove it, but the damn job market is not playing ball.

What proportion of women wouldn't date a man who earned less than 25000 - and, indeed, what sort of correlation might there be?

Maybe it's not just men that suck, but people?

My friends are weird, at least I hope they are, because I'd like to think my friends are a bit like me ... grin!

My ideal woman is capable, practical and achieves ... this means she is either a success in her chosen business (and thus probably earns more than 25k) or has chosen a line of work (like working for a charity) where she can achieve but where success isn't measured by salary. So basically I don't want a woman who couldn't earn *less* than 25k (whether she does or not).

Oh, and my first "true love" was earning more than 25k when we were going out in 1987, don't know how that works out in 2008 money. She was a chartered accountant and chartered company secretary, and a science fiction fan and charming, witty, and stunningly beautiful. I should have married her then when I had the chance ... oh well.

There is a difference between "wouldn't date" and "what is your ideal woman", the fine nuances of which might not have been reported by the torygraph. I find it probably more depressing that the equivalent women's survey was all "Oh, my ideal man would earn $lots (60,000+)". I think it's "nicer" in some ways that men are attracted to realistic caring women then just wanting someone who makes a lot of money. If you ask what someone's ideal profession for a partner is (which I agree is a daft question) it seems 'not-bad' to get caring and realistic answers like working in PR or being a nurse (at least preferable to wanting to date film-stars and models). And if you're trying to give consistant answers it is ridiculous to say "I want to date a nurse" and then say "I want to date someone earning 100,000+".
