Good Lord! First everyone moves across to selling MP3s via Amazon, now they're all going to stream for free over Last.fm. what, exactly, is the world coming to? Has there been a sudden outbreak of sanity in the music industry?

Oh, and they're going to do deals directly with independent artists and pay them directly too.

Call me cynical, but I suspect they are trying the opposite approach to the hardline method we have seen in the past and if it works, great! If it doesn't will we see them backtrack to a more traditional method?

Good news though all round. Maybe the Steve Jobs "open" letter did have an effect.
