And I realised that in my flat I have the following devices which attach to the internet:
My PC
Ed's PC
My phone (browser and email, plus LJ Client, Google Maps, etc.)
My Eee laptop
The DS (Opera Browser)
The Wii (Opera Browser)
The XBox Media Center (no web browser, but it connects to youtube and the apple trailer site, as well as weather.com)

And let to me wondering what percentage of my friends list is similarly over-endowed in the web-enabled-appliance sector.

It's at least 25 according to my count - I'm just not sure how many smartphones marypcb is looking at at the moment. This room has by far the most, but then the office is where most of the technology lives...

I've interpreted 'functional' as 'in regular use'. So 5 people all with desktop + laptop machines, 4 of them with smartphones, plus router and communal video/music box in the kitchen = 16.

Counting stuff not powered up? Ye gods I have no idea. 30?

2, one of which is my computer and one of which is another person's computer. Any day now, it will be 3, when I get my new cellphone set up. I'm still waiting for the battery and charger to be delivered.

We sort of stopped counting. But I think it is, roughly:

4 desktop computers
6 laptop computers (though three of these are very old and we should get rid really; one is earmarked for a craft project).
The Mac Mini in the living room.
3 phones. Or thereabouts; if you count old phones, I think it's perhaps five?
2 Nokia internet tablets.
Console like things: the V+ box and the Wii.
Router like things: the Airport Extreme and the Airport Express.
PDA like things; though in fact it's quite hard to connect using them.
Nintendo DS x 3.

Surely it's more interesting to count per person; we have four people, and increasingly the four people have a full complement of devices each.

If I counted currently non-functional PCs that could be got working with ten minutes with an install CD that would rise to 12 or so -- including PCs which could be working with an hour and a screwdriver, maybe 16 to 18.

We actually have 6 functional devices..... but we both have 2 laptops which would also connect to internet if all their bits were working, and 2 old mobile phones.

My keyboard will connect to the internet... in a way... with a cable..... and some human companionship!!.... I'm clutching at straws now arent I ;)
