And the large swathes of wall you can't see. There's something about repetitive tasks that induces an almost meditative state. Not that that makes it any more fun, or I'd be finishing it off rather than writing posts on my phone..

Easy - rolling doesn't go within three inches of the ceiling - that bit gets done with a brush. But you don't have to worry about the quality particularly, because once you're that high up you can just slap it on and tiny inconsistencies won't be visible from floor level. Stick up some masking tape and then just use a decent sized brush.

Two coats of undercoat means I don't have to worry about how even the first coat is, the second coat will cover up any problems the first one had.

gah, 3" is too much. *i* can see it/know it's there. And I'd still hit the ceiling if I wasn't concentrating.

oh yeah 2nd coat rocks. always looks sh*t after one. Well except if you are really good. Which some people are. And with no masking and no mess.

I feel this pressure to be able to do it like that. Go on, point stare and laugh at the perfectionist :-)
