I can't say I'm particularly surprised, although having been to Tim's place of work, I'd hazard a guess that the engineers aren't far behind.
My own place of work has a dress code, however we're allowed to dress down on a Friday: a day on which you can definitely spot a person's type of work by sight!
To my mind the worst offenders are the call centre staff though: I'd rather see a sysadmin in washed out band t-shirt than a chubby call centre girl in a crop top and micro-mini any day. IT companies might be scruffy in general, but a normally restrained financial services company given a little leeway is quite an eye-opener!
It seems somone asked who the tramp was this morning, when I walked through the support office early this morning.. I may look bad, but boy was I warm!
It's amusing that for women (at least in the average office in which I work), it seems that the cost of the outfits worn seems to be inversely proportional to her salary - I.e. the programmers dress in ancient/cheap stuff and the receptionist is in designer gear, stupidly pricey shoes and expensive jewellery etc.
My beloved H is an incredibly good looking man, but I never have to worry about women trying to come onto him because he is an IT worker and looks like it. It's weird, too, because even when he wears really nice clothes, they morph into schlubby togs as soon as he walks out the door to go to work. There's no sense fighting it the IT worker syndrome when it's that innate.
A t-shirt just arrived through the mail for him and it appears that it is from "Warren Ellis' Tee Shirt Cannon." I can't wait to see what's on the front. If it says "Die Puny Humans" or similar, I'm sure he'll wear it for Thanksgiving dinner.
