Although they did, and it was called Yes, Minister.

[livejournal.com profile] missedith01 talks about being invited to give her views about the new terror legislation.  The questions include:

Do you think that our laws should be updated to cope with the current security threat? (Yes/No/Not sure)
and
Do you think the government should make sure there are new safeguards to protect innocent people? (Yes/No/Not sure)

Marvellous stuff.

Cripes, can Labour make it any easier for their critics?

Wh... Uh. Whuh? Huh?

They 'want to have our views as soon as possible', so they solicit them by asking three of the most cringingly, brazenly leading questions I've ever seen? (you missed out the equally remarkable 'Do you think police should have the time and opportunity to complete their investigations into suspected terrorists?') In a form with no field for 'any other comments', nothing about, uh, *how* our laws should be updated, or whether some of the safeguards we would like to see protecting innocent people might be to protect them from arbitrary incarceration or sudden killing by heavily armed and confused undercover police officers, or anything like that. Just 'Would you like to be kept up-to-date on the progress of this legislation and other issues?'

Why, yes. Yes, I would. Please write to Fergus 'What The Fuck? You Call This A Poll?' Ray Murray at whattheFUCKseriouslyWHATtheFUCK@oolong.co.uk.

Thank you.

What?

Mmm, just like the yes minister sketch. Heck, I'm going to be forced to do a fair bit of stats. 'Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics' does it no justice...

The worst thing in all of this is that labour doesn't really have any strong critics - at least in the house. Howard has a garlic-and-sunlight allergy, and never harrows blair in any decent way. And, unfortunately, Kennedy seems to have the killing instinct of a pink fluffy poodle....

But wait! Here comes Cameron! He's not spooky, he's not fluffy, he's ... posh! He's posher than Blair, even!

(oh god)

Naturally, Howard agrees with Blair about most things and only usually bothers to complain about issues on which he's even more wrong than Neo Labour.

Kennedy is sweet and all, but that's not necessarily what's most needed when you have people like this in power.

Let's hear it for the two/three-party system!
