I arrived in London a mere twenty minutes late, after enduring a fairly comfortable train journey down (the third carriage I checked had almost no people _and_ working air conditioning, a delightful combination). However, my best laid plans were then thrown entirely askew by the Kings Cross tube station still being closed - how long can it take to scrape up the bits? Possibly I should have delayed my journey somewhat to pop down and lend a hand with a spatchelor.

Anyway, I was forced to detour via ThamesLink to London Bridge, and then break that journey in half when there was another security alert that meant I had to change at Moorgate. All in all a less than fun experience, meaning that I arrived at Canada Water somewhat warm and sticky. Fortunately [livejournal.com profile] flick's directions were most excellent, so I was able to track down the shared Plokta household in fairly short order and relax while [livejournal.com profile] drplokta made some rather delicious pasta 'n' bacon. I then read comics and engaged in occasional conversation, then got taken on a lovely walk around the surrounding area - it's the old London docks, now converted into a series of oblong lakes with connecting canals. We admired the various ducks, grebes, swans and terns and I got a good look at the area, which was a nice one (except for being in London, of course).

Then back to the flat, where they both busied themselves with official WorldCon business while I read Reinventing Comics, which (so far) isn't as good as Understanding Comics, but is still interesting,

I'm delighted to note that everyone who's seen NIN live has loved them, so providing their drummer doesn't break his arm (like last time I attempted to see them) I'm rather looking forward to tomorrow night.

Trust me when I say this in a positive light. This isn't bitching or anything like that.

Personally, I think it's a tremendous statement about the UK when merely the next week after the bombings, people are bitching about why the rubble hasn't been picked up. I only wish people here reacted so well.

60 degree heat and rats and having about four inches in which to maneuver are only some of the reasons why they're still working down there....
