There's a qualification being brought in for the digital equivalent of plumbers - people who will come round to your house and fix your network, hit your computer repeatedly with an anti-virus program and make everything work again.

Which, on behalf of the 10,000 geeks who get regularly roped into fixing their parents/friends/passers-by's computers, is something of a relief.

Lol!

I'm already doing a (series of) qualifications relating to networking at school. When I leave the 6th form in 3 years time (well.....not quite), I'll be CCNA, A+, MCNA, MCSE, IENA, iPro, and other random letters - Certified. I don't know how many schools in the country offer those; but I don't think it's a lot, probably as they're somewhere between an A level and a degree in difficulty. I think the full CCNA is a diploma, but I'm not sure. At any rate, it's a really well taught class, and it's really well written - last year's pass rate was 40% ish; dropout rate is 85%.

I can't really work out what that course is equal to however. But still, more knowledgeable geeks == good things!

(And they're RJ-11s, not RJ-45s in that photograph, I think)

So, can I get all those people to vouch for me as references and test out of the actual coursework? (If only!)

I fixed my own!!!
I think it was mostly luck along with a sprinkling of calm, patient email explaination of stuff from [livejournal.com profile] dreema
but I got there in the end - no visits from geeks required!!
