Grant Morrison is doing 12 issues of Superman later this year, which I'm rather looking forward to.

This is the first cover, which I rather like:

It's about time DC got up off their arses and did something to steal the crown off Marvel - Frank Miller is back to Batman and the knock out combo of Morrison/Quitely might make the Big Blue Boyscout readable/marketable again :)

Did you read Morrisons We3?

yay!

And go Doop! Love the icon - now, if only Xstatix was still here :(

I miss Tyke, Dead Girl et al.

Coolness, I'd heard rumors of this project around a year ago, but nothing definite since then. One of the major rumors (coming from an interview with Morrison himself) is that he's going to attempt to make this both a cool comic and a chaos magic ritual where he attempt to "wake up" the Superman avatar. I'm definitely intrigued, especially since he (rather surprisingly to me, since I dearly love most of Whedon's TV work) did a far better job with the X-Men than Joss Whedon is currently doing.

Agreed. What else is he doing now?

He's got another 12 months on the X-Men. I hear rumblings that Joel Silver is stalking him for the Wonder Woman movie.

Heh. Good cover. DC really seems to be going for it and throwing some talent at it's core properties. (Greg Ruckas) Wonder Woman & (Geoff Johns)Green Lantern [Rebirth] are consistently great. Good to see Superman and Batman getting the same treatment.

If you haven't already read them I recommend you take a look at Identity Crisis & Green Lantern Rebirth. And definitely, if you do nothing else, read the gorgeous New Frontier.

In contrast Marvel has done nothing but flush its own properties down the toilet for the past year. The MU is just a mess these days. Shameful.

Will sir be getting 7 Soldiers?

Ah, but. The new Marvel properties (?) are excellent. Runaways, Alias.

The first issue is out btw, I saw it in FP yesterday. I'll probably pick up one of the miniseries and wait for the inevitable trade(s). Zatanna & Shining Knight are the two that immediately stand out for me.

Did I mention that New Frontier is from Darwyn Cooke, the guy who created the Batman Beyond credits and, amongst other things, the gorgeous 50s styled version of Catwoman. Here's his GL (with a sketch of WW):

Darwyn Cooke is a genius, I love the way he took Selina Kyle out of the purple spandex, thank god!

Totally. The new costume was spot-on. Now if only he'd been involved in the Catwoman movie...

"Acclaimed writer/artist Darwyn Cooke (CATWOMAN: SELINA'S BIG SCORE) turns his attention to the dawn of the Silver Age in DC: THE NEW FRONTIER — which takes readers on a journey from the end of the Golden Age to the genesis of a bold new heroic era in the late 1950s! Volume One collects DC: THE NEW FRONTIER #1-3 plus the three extra pages originally seen only in Wizard Magazine!

World War II is over. The Cold War has begun. The Age of the Superhero is in decline. But where are the heroes of tomorrow? THE NEW FRONTIER recounts the dawning of the DCU's Silver Age from the perspective of those brave individuals who made it happen. Encounter "keepers of the flame" including Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman, who survived the anti-hero sentiment of the Cold War, as well as eager newcomers like test pilot Hal Jordan and scientist Barry Allen, poised to become the next generation of crimefighters.

Cooke, a master storyteller, writes and illustrates this landmark tale, a must-have for fans of the DCU and all lovers of powerful tales of heroism!"

Must come and visit you for comic-reading-fest. I must admit to not having read much of anything for years. I was just about following Cerebus until Dave Sim went undeniably crazy in a way in which I wasn't interested.

Come to think of it Grant Morrison is definitely cracked too, which never used to be so obvious. Or maybe I was crazier, who knows? :-)

Who am I to begrudge anyone a job that fits their own mental peculiarities? :-)
