As horrible as it sounds, I appreciate these disasters sometimes, for the smack upside the head it gives me - ie, what shade of lipstick I wear tonight is really, really, _really_ irrelevant.

The only thing close to being as frightening as what happened, is the sheer lack of impact it has had (generally) in the US. Minimum news coverage, minimum care.
