But do you need it?
Oct. 17th, 2004 04:31 pmIn conversation with green_amber and Yonmei, I mentioned that I'd rather give up sex than broadband (or books), which led on to Yonmei suggesting a poll.....
Give each of the following a different score - 5 for the one you want to keep most, 1 for the one you could live without the easiest...

Date: 2004-10-17 09:02 am (UTC)Do a different poll. For myself I certainly like sex better than books en generale (tho not all sex, and not all books) but I probably like my mum's fried fish with cauliflower cheese and mashed potatoes better than either.
Roll on the post scarcity society.

Date: 2004-10-17 01:09 pm (UTC)I ranked broadband as low as I did since there's an easy subsitute and there are no substitutes for chocolate, sex, and books. Broadband probably plays a bigger role in my life than the three of those, though, unfortunately.

Date: 2004-10-18 01:32 am (UTC)You could've just reduced it to favourite-food, sex and media...
I voted by imagining it as a kind of desert-island pleasures quiz. Which would I prefer, a life with only sex (or chocolate!) to ever look forward to, or of the diversity of interests provided by books and the other media. The first two could become a kind of hell, while the latter would be at least some sort of consolation.
