I'm wary of the old monsters showing up when it's trying to establish itself again, (the Cybermen have never been in a good story and wouldn't work in the 21st C without a serious re-write), but I reckon a new Master or Rani (played straight) would be great and hard to screw up.

The first story (Xmas this year?) has the creepy and potentially good Autons. [killer mannequins].

Absolutely. Even just having it as simple as them being humans from the future (and allowing some freedom with individual designs) and there's a workable idea.

However the cool stuff was long buried under a mountain of useless continuity (Telos, Mondas..? Does it matter?) I'm confident that a revamped Cyber-race would be great, but using them as they are (without dumping all the crap) would be hugely disappointing and a waste of potential.
