Just to let you all know what's going on with my life, redundancies, etc.

Formal announcement today that IS Division is losing "not more than 240 people", slanted towards senior staff (over junior ones) and Analysts (over developers).  As a Junior Developer I feel somewhat safe, although not entirely.

Specific announcement about how many people in each pool will occur next week, at which point I'll know exactly how unsafe to feel.

Want to come over and drool at Servelan on Friday to take your mind off it?

Could probably organise something.
I'll need to check what [livejournal.com profile] original_aj's plans are first though.

Including my husband. *g* I've played with him a couple of times. He's a character-driven player, loves systems such as Ars Magica and Legends of the Five Rings. Has yet to find a group to play with in Edinburgh, though ... even though he's not trying that hard, to be honest. It's even more difficult for him now that the Black Lion has gone AWOL. Where will he get his fix of Knights of the Dinner Table? (except from the Internet, but that's not quite the same ...)

Right, excellent. My husband said he'll search for you tomorrow. Some time before or after his Group Redundancy Targets Meeting, I gather. I.e. sometime before or after 11am.

He's working in Thistle Street, btw. The building with the huge red "To Let" sign over the door.

Heh. What a friggin' coincidence.

I definitely will.

He tends to be in at 9ish.

Good luck. My husband works for Standard Life, too. IS division, Junior developer.

(I came via [livejournal.com profile] green_amber, btw)

I did, because as soon as I told him I'd commented on your journal, he asked about yours. But no ... He's a database guy, works with Oracle, used to look after Property databases. You might have seen him around, actually - he's quite tall (6'4")and he's got grey hair even though he's only 33. I'm not going to tell you his name because I'm a bit cagey about divulging my and spouse's RL name online ...

More to the point, what's his name? We probably know him.

Sadly, I've seen all the figures, and know exactly where we all stand, but I can't say anything, or I'd be for the chop.

My commiserations. When I was working for a small Edinbrugh startup, they had a policy of first deciding about the redundancies, then telling the line managers on the Friday ... and the people concerned on the Monday afterwards.

Since everybody in the company is/was quite friendly with each other, that's quite some strain.

Somehow, I prefer the way Standard Life are handling it, because I'd rather have some time to prepare for a possible redundancy (tune down spending, tidy up CV) than to be packed off at a month's notice and without any redundancy settlement.
