Imagine that you're out somewhere and something painfully unfortunate happens.  A mixup/ confusion that leaves people feeling upset and angry.

Now imagine that I find this all intensely amusing and start giggling.

Not, before you get the wrong idea, because I _like_ my friends being upset and angry; because if the exact situation had occurred in a sitcom it _would be_ incredibly funny.

I've been primed by tv to find farce, misunderstanding, confusion and loss amusing (in the right circumstances).  Whether it's Shakespeare, Frasier or Friends there's few things more amusing than things falling apart.

Not that I find it funny all the time, of course.  But when an element of the ridiculous enters the fray (and let's face it, that happens a lot) things are just too amusing.

Anyone disagreeing just has to think of my current living arrangements...

If you don't laugh you'll cry, right?

Sometimes when Patrick and I are arguing about something really stupid I'll suddenly have a moment of clarity -- as if I stepped outside of myself for a moment -- and realize just how ridiculous it is that we're so passionate about something so silly. And his righteous indignation over whatever it is (laundry, grocery shopping, who said what when) will strike me as funny and it'll be everything I can do not to start giggling uncontrollably. Because I learned a long time ago that laughing at a man while he's angry about something doesn't exactly diffuse the situation. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Of course, he does the same with me. Apparently I'm very funny when I get stressed out and pissed. He once likened me to Donald Duck, jumping up and down and waving my hands, with pin-feathers flying off in all directions...

I've been told when I get really angry my neck suddenly juts out, leading to the nickname 'Turtle Neck'. As you can imagine, this doesn't help matters when it's pointed out in the middle of an arguement. S'funny any other though :)

I can deal with misunderstanding and confusion to a certain extent in films (e.g. Shrek) but generally I don't find "farce" amusing. Maybe I've been conditioned by real life not to find amusement in someone else's misfortunes.

I get into trouble for this a huge amount, too. Even more so when I look at my own situation and suddenly laugh heartily!
