Orkut is the new Friendster-like service, this time from google.

It promises an online meeting place where people can socialize, make new acquaintances and find others who share their interests.

Which sounds like _exactly_ what Livejournal does for me.

I know a few of you have taken a look (thanks for the invites), but I'm just wondering if you can tell me what it can do for me that LJ doesn't...

I was wondering the exact same thing.

Mr. Warren Ellis himself is having trouble with Orkut. He says so in [livejournal.com profile] diepunyhumans. Once you get in, they don't let you out.

The search feature seems neat, more as a toy than anything else. It's not fully implemented yet, but it seems like eventually I'll be able to search for bisexual women between the ages of 20-26 who went to the same college as I did, live in a 40-mile radius of me, and are interested in comic books. Not that I'll actually do anything with that information, but it's a more interesting search than one can generally do on LJ.
