I was chatting to Emma today, who I lived with a couple of years after graduating. That year was terrible, largely due to me moving in with her and Hal and Saint, and thn Hal and her breaking up the next day (literally) and both of them refusing to be the one that moved out. You can imagine the jolly japes that ensued. Oh, how we laughed.

Anyway, later that year, Hal went to Kenya to visit Philippa, an old friend of his from his Uni time, came back, assured everyone (including Emma) that it was all platonic, and then (a few weeks later) told us that he'd found out that Phil was pregnant with his child.

Obviously, this only increased the happiness quotient in the house.

Anyway, about 2 weeks ago Alex, the fruit of Hal and Phil's loins (now happily married, and with a second sprog) was 5. Which means this eventful year was 5 years ago.

5 years, man! I feel like that guy in Grosse Point Blanke. 5 years! Where the hell did they go?

Suddenly, I feel surprisingly old.

You spent much of the five years watching videos first in a flat in one street, then in another.

I was there for some of the time when it was here, not when it was there. When it was there, I just turned up for Mage.

Heh. I bet you're surprised to find out that I can remember the date when I was first introduced to you. You'll get a prize if you're close with your pathetic guess.

I always find it interesting to remember where/who you were 10 years ago. I think "shit that feels like yesterday", then I work my way through what I did with those years.
2 finishing my A-levels
3 at Essex University
1 at Anco software
2 at Perfect Entertainment/Teeny weeny games
1 at Sussex University
1/2 in Guildford at Dogfish and Lionhead
plus little bits of time here and there unemployed or whatever.

Usually I end up thinking "Fuck I've done a lot in the last ten years I wonder what I'll do in the next ten."

It's not so bad.

But then my little brother (Andy's little, little brother) is now 25.
Now _that_ makes me feel old.

Shockingly I don't remember being introduced to you, since it probably happened at an early meeting of SurPs.... oh wait, maybe I do... memories; room carpeted with comics; guitar on cupboard; people in towels; flat near Paco's. Was that the first time, I wonder? And why wasn't I more receptive to people as friends then??

Grr... I'm even starting to hate myself in first year now.
(Maybe that's how I'll deal with oldness, by thinking only the last 3 years really count, and the rest was a younger me, and therefore clearly an idiot, who counts for nothing.)
