Off work today. Woke up with one of those terrible headache things and a nose that wasn't so much bunged up as completely non-functional. I set my alarm for 9, woke up again then to call in sick and then slept until 10:30. I'm feeling out of it just sitting here at the computer, and I suspect a day of staring blankly into space lies ahead of me.

Bleh!

Bleh I say!

Any suggestions for ways to get rid of colds?

If the headache is kind of behind your eyes and in your temples then congratulations. Welcome to the horrifying world of acute sinusitis. There's a lot of it going around at the moment. You will require Vicks vapor rub or Olbus oil to sick in boiling water and steam your head to clean your tubes. Do this every night and every morning (if you have time). Also alternate paracetemol and ibuprofen every 5 hours. Try and prop your head up at night as lying down at night causes the goo to build up rather than drain. There's no quick fix, just a lot of pain for 5 days or so.

Hope this helps...

Echinacea. Now. OD on it plus vit C pills. It works if you get in quickly enough.

(Flatmate has returned from Amsterdam also with pouring cold. I am surrounded by sickies :)

Zicam, an over the counter nostril lotion that apparently keeps the cold virus from breeding in your mucous membranes or some such. Shortens or prevents colds. It actually works!
