Watching A New Hope with Gideon for the first time*, and while we were watching Ben Kenobi fight Darth Vader he kept saying "I really hope Darth Vader loses". I didn't say anything, but I couldn't help feeling bad...

*We started playing the Lego Skywalker Saga over Christmas. I thought he might enjoy seeing the movie and so far he's riveted. Sophia has refused to join us. Mostly on the grounds of "Not enough girls", which was her main objection when she tried watching it with me about two years ago.

IIRC there are more girls in some of the later films, and Leia does save the boys on the Death Star.

Was Kenobi's death part of the original plot, or because Guiness's contract made him too expensive for the Empire Strikes back ? Wasn't he on a percentage instead of a flat fee ?

It seems to fit in organically to the first movie, while also not preventing him from returning in the next two.

She's not wrong.

Thank you for raising her so that she can not only still express this, but she hasn't been shamed/bullied [1] into pretending that stories about only boys/men are "universal". Mankind and all that lah di dah.

[1] - I want a better word that doesn't imply blame to individual people - this is cultural shame/bullying where we're all unconsciously complicit.
