Oh. And another signal regarding how this is not the age of progress. It's the age of regress.

1) The advent of mad cow disease, back in the 90s, marked the point at which it became illegal for travelers to bring meat products from the UK into the US. I don't know if it still is. I was also soon afterwards told I could no longer donate blood because I'd eaten beef in Britain.
