Bestest response on BS to anything I've posted, and I ain't shy about posting links with or without snark.

I am surprised by the amount of quibbling over the words in the article, which I think is meant to be light and informative and everybody seems to treat it like the worst example of yellow journalism.

1) Not what I've seen in men's bathrooms.

3) Not what I've found in 35 years of cat ownership.

5) Stopped watching this when it stopped being about Lord of the Rings and turned into a discussion of Nightmare on Elm Street instead.

I also live with a considerably better cat, though I wasn't moved to defend him earlier because he'd chewed on my foot when I was stepping over him. No blood, but still annoying.

I'm put in mind of a cat some friends owned-- that cat put a guest in the emergency room. They didn't keep the cat away from visitors, they just warned visitors, but not efficiently.

Anyway, that skit could pass for being about any amount of dubious advice. For example, people who like long hikes over rough terrain in cold weather.

Ukraine and Russia

I have been, for a while, of the opinion that all the half-arsed assistance to Ukraine has been a feebly clumsy effort to keep Russia occupied. We can't let Ukraine resolve this conflict or we'll have Russia at loose ends again. Every time Ukraine does something home-grown and amazing, do we build on their success? Don't be silly.

That thread sums up most of my thoughts very well. Two more things I want to mention. The ever increasing role of North Korea expands the conflict to Asia/South Korea.

And many governments in continental Europe are tilting to the right because of immigration. The biggest root cause can be traced back to Russia. Putin supported the murderous regime in Syria. In Germany that meant more than a million refugees from Syria. The next wave of more than a million refugees came from Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Without those two events, the far-right parties in continental Europe would be more or less irrelevant.
By now, in the Eastern German states (the former GDR), there's also a highly Putin-friendly, populist left-wing party. There's increasing pressure from both sides to reduce Ukraine support.

So, yes, Europe not taking the Russian threat seriously is putting it mildly. I think the importance of next week's US election can't be overstated.
