Last week my 9-month old phone (a Nokia XR21) developed a defect, with the screen physically coming loose.

If I had an Apple phone then I'd have wandered down to the nearest Apple Store, had them take a quick look at it, and it would have undoubtedly been replaced on the spot, with all of my data transferred.

Instead, my phone has been packaged up, was dropped off at a local DHL pickup location yesterday , and is awaiting import clearance to Bucharest (in Romania) to be looked at. If I'm lucky I'll have it back in the middle of next week.

Luckily I had my previous phone still, and so I've got a backup to write this on. (And check my bank, chat to Jane, take photos, plan trips, and the dozens of other things I use my phone for daily).

????

In Berlin, there are loads of shops in every major shoppign street that can sort that stuff out.
AFAI recall, London too.

Or is the issue that you don't trust these shops?

Ah - probably that you want the work done under warranty for free! I would just pay to get the convenience, but I am sure you have your reasons!

Turning it off and on again didn't work? (I had to check, but it was only 10 years ago since Microsoft owned them.)

We can of course blame Brexit for the import clearance requirement.

What a complete pain in the tonsils. One of my friends is an import/export manager at DHL and it's been a screaming nightmare for months - "new" govt software that was commissioned prior to Brexit, so it doesn't actually support the new paperwork requirements without a lot of notes and things, and it only went Live about 14 months ago, so people still don't know how it works, including recieving/sending countries. We do not make it easy on ourselves.
