Except that the 19th Century ended at midnight on December 31st 1900 it's a fun story.

If the sextant is only precise to a few hundred metres, that makes it *easier* to hit the magic line or point.

The equator bit is neat, but you can skip a day anywhere along the dataline. We have Eastern and Western as well as Northern and Southern hemispheres, so the two hemisphere bit is not unique to the equator.
Plus in late December, close to a solstice, the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are more significant than the equator.

Winter/summer is cool, but do these seasons mean anything in the tropics ?

4. Our factory (in Canada) uses those tools. Problem with the V-notch wire stripper/cutter is that, if it is even slightly out of alignment, you nick the conductor, and it'll fail in the field. We have a 10X binocular microscope mounted next to ours, so we can do a first-piece verification. We're also migrating to automated laser stripping, as that eliminates the risk of nicked conductors.

#3 That review is interesting. I do agree that "3 Body" is a very good Chinese series. (I'm rewatching it on Viki this week to catch clues I missed on the first watch last year.) I hope Netflix pays their taxes someday, so I'm willing to give them money again to watch their shows.
