#6 seems to be curiously missing a tickbox for your circumstances with respect to the service.

Two users of the same doom-laden service may be differentially screwed if to one it's their primary place of business and their only means of communication with half their customers, while to the other it's a bit of random fun that they can give up any time with only a faint wistfulness to mark its passing!

(4) is a surprise, I should google the term anyway, specifically I'm very softhearted about anything with a face.

I'd be glad not to have to watch it repeatedly, it certainly seemed heartless to me even with the lack of face, but separately I'm also very reluctant to trash perfectly good stuff, given how posting free stuff on local social media always brings someone glad to have and use it, so I feel negatively about it on both counts. Though, I'm sentimental about anything I somehow spent much time with, e.g., I was sad to sell my car in moving from Tennessee, especially given how well (faithfully? (-:) it had served me, so maybe that's a third issue with just dumping one's lamp.

What did the anthropomorphism article make you think?

I find it useful to name my computers so that I can easily identify them on the network. But that's all. I use names of fictional computers. My networks are also named after fictional "networks"

Me too, everything that can even theoretically be connected to anything else has a name to keep file locations clear---right down to the USB sticks.

I used to work with a guy who knew all the machines in our medium sized work network by IP address. I mean to him, that was as good as a name. I guess some people are just like that - like my other friend, Sophie, who could recall everyone's phone number instantly (and also had an insanely good sense of direction/navigation ability).

I appreciated this bit from #6:

Hey NoScript peeps, (or other users without Javascript), I dig the way you roll. That's why this page is mostly static and doesn't generate the list dynamically. The only things you're missing are a progressive descent into darkness and a happy face who gets sicker and sicker as you go on. Oh, and there's a total at the bottom, but anyone who uses NoScript can surely count for themselves.

Rock on!

So refreshing!
