I like that the Australian renewable PV storage system is getting its cheapness from using simple mass produced components - that looks like it will stand it in good stead as they expand production.

Very much. Should make it trivial to ramp things up.

I also love that they're basically using what's usually considered to be a waste product to squeeze more energy out of the system.

It's not just squeezing out more energy: the big gain is that there's an output at night and, in a larger system, in periods of cloudy weather.

This system is using 'waste' heat to address the most serious drawback of solar energy.

That they're doing it cheaply, with well-established technology, is the icing on the cake.

Better ways to use existing technology, basically a massive productivity boost too.
