Any idea whether the Canadian fires are burning trees or tundra - which will release methane as the permafrost melts ?

At least if fires are defrosting methane they might burn it now rather than let it act as a greenhouse gas for a couple of decades before releasing its chemical energy. Though keeping it frozen in the ground is obviously far more desirable.
