There are now 6 people on my friends list who I haven't met, despite them living in the same city as me.

Part of me really wants to meet them, to take people who I chose because I liked their writing, thoughts and personality and bring them from my virtual life into my real one.

Part of me knows that this would cause a fair amount of dissapointment, because in my head I've already filled in gaps around what they've said, added in my own subliminal details about who they are and idealised them into someone that a real person could never live up to.

And part of me enjoys standing in The Mission or walking into an alternative-film and wondering if the person in the next aisle is one of these people, if I'm 5 feet away from a connection I already have. My eyes sweep the room and I subconsciously pick someone out and wonder if it's someone I already know.

Some day, I hope, I will meet you all.

I did that, too. Then I met the person in town. She was very cool, and I am working on Borging her into my current collective.

I'd say go for it. Whatcha got to lose?

I'm often surprised at some point we haven't met -we seem to go to some of the same sorts of places and even know some people in common. I very nearly went to Vain last night, for example.

I've met quite a lot of people in person that i've met online. It's been fairly 50-50 to be honest. I'm also quite reticent with new people - not being one to make interesting small talk, which often leads to a nervous tendency to drink too much and I end up behaving like an idiot who can't string two words together.

Which doesn't mean i'm averse to the idea but i'm sure it will happen at some point anyway.

I'd kind of like to organise a meetup of all the interesting Edinburgh LJers - especially those I haven't met yet!

[livejournal.com profile] guybles and I figured out who the other one was in the beer garden at the Beehive, though we'd never met before. (In fairness, though, we were expecting to meet each other, so I just looked round for a man by himself who looked as if he was expecting to meet someone... and he said he recognised me from my Mo pic.)

I guess I must be one of those people.

Why an alternative film? Would it mean anything less if you met while seeing Bad Boys II?

Obviously I'm past it being, as I am, in my mid-thirties. Englebert Humperdink and Manfred Mann are my staples.

But "Velvet Acid Christ & funkervogt - Futile (resisted)"?

Did you just make that up?

I'm not a trekkie but I love the Borg. Not sure why. Maybe it's just a latent desire to be assimilated. Or a penchant for glue-on face jewelry.

How you going to send me a copy? Is there a livejournal feature I haven't found yet? :-)
