I only experienced menopause for six weeks before and six weeks after GCS when I was required to come off oestrogen and ten years does sound like absolute hell!

If you're sticking it on a shelf, then yes, an SSD is not a great long-term storage option.

And you're right about the good teachers.

Why specify "sticking it on a shelf"? Is it more reliable if you use the drive occasionally? How frequently? Does it matter if you don't touch the files you're storing, as long as you use other files?

Those are fascinating questions to which I cannot find any useful answers!

But my understanding is that if your SSD is plugged in and being used regularly then it should last the lifespan of your PC. There does seem to be an issue that if left with no current then eventually quantum effects (electrons tunnelling out of the cells) will cause an issue after somewhere between 5 and 20 years. But I can't find any reasonable detail.

Personally, I'd go for a local SSD and backup to hard discs/cloud storage.

When I was teaching I knowingly came across three or four gay kids but I'm pretty certain I never I never met a trans kid and I'd have known if anyone would!

And I learned to be very selective about what I 'saw'.

Yes- by being aware that there might be bullying going on (and there was) and keeping an eye out for them.

One of the gay kids did come out to me. He later became an actor (which I suppose figures) :o)

Being trans myself, I know pretty much all there is to know about bullying.
