Housing is ridiculously expensive in much of Canada, too, and wages are stagnant. And, despite Canada trying to bring in half a million immigrants per year, it's incredibly tedious and difficult to immigrate.

I'm married to a Canadian and I know that I am now to old to emigrate there. I needed to be thinking about this seriously twenty years ago!

The experiences of a fellow-student of aikido and practice partner at our dojo, who has an extremely valuable and highly-scored technical skill, were dismaying. He is now married to his (Canadian) partner and living in BC but the process was so distressing to them both that she considered renouncing her Canadian citizenship in order for them both to have a life together in a more compassionate country.

The 'How friendships change in adulthood' article is interesting, and I suspect that it will be one of those 'essential reading, but unread' pieces that could've improved the lives of many people we know, immeasurably.

I speak as someone who faced severe obstacles to building friendships in adolescence, and a life event in his early twenties which entirely severed the friendships that had been built at university.

I built a social life and a network of friends, from zero, in my mid-thirties.

I have that experience in common with people who experienced clinical depression in early adulthood; or experienced a common psychiatric illness I'm not naming; abuse survivors from toxic communities; and...

Late-socialising neurodivergent people.

We both work in IT, that's quite a lot of our colleagues!

That article has nothing in the way of advice and usable information for us, at all.

I'm not clear whether you were saying that "there are many people who would benefit from reading this article who wont read it", or that the article was a missed opportunity to give many people a lot of useful advice.

It seemed to me to be full of truth, but had nothing actionable and nothing that was new to me even at eighteen.
