Date: 2022-11-22 11:47 pm (UTC)Housing is ridiculously expensive in much of Canada, too, and wages are stagnant. And, despite Canada trying to bring in half a million immigrants per year, it's incredibly tedious and difficult to immigrate.

He is now married to his (Canadian) partner and living in BC but the process was so distressing to them both that she considered renouncing her Canadian citizenship in order for them both to have a life together in a more compassionate country.

I built a social life and a network of friends, from zero, in my mid-thirties.
I have that experience in common with people who experienced clinical depression in early adulthood; or experienced a common psychiatric illness I'm not naming; abuse survivors from toxic communities; and...
Late-socialising neurodivergent people.
We both work in IT, that's quite a lot of our colleagues!
