4.heartbreaking. these kids would have been my classmates, the parents our neighbours. In the 70s, we coped (some luxuries were still there to cut). Things have gone badly backwards...

I don't live in Scotland but as a high earner I'd gladly be taxed more if the tax went on decent social support.

1. Accidental art, I suppose?

3. I was wondering how long it would take before the technologies were adapted well enough to airplanes for such purchases to start happening. That it's Air Canada among the early adopters - as far as I can see - is cause for some vicarious satisfaction.

4. Horrible, this. The militantly cruel among those richer than us have much to answer for. (I take continuing note of the "Patriotic Millionaires" demanding to be further taxed.)

5. Orbàn also has much to answer to the Hungarian people in particular and to humanity in general for.

3a) Are there lots of short hop flights in Canada? In Scotland we have quite a few in the Islands (including what I think is the world's shortest commercial flight.) And I recall lots of seaplanes in the Pacific North West and / or British Columbia.

3b) I would be very interested in the comparative cost of operation for a battery electric plane vs a ICE or jet.

I'd say there are more short-hop flights available from the various airlines operating across Canada than I'd originally thought. Here's a work in progress on that subject, admittedly in need of revision:

Looks like there are quite a few under 200 miles or so.

Not having a good grasp of the geography of Canada I tried to use Google Maps to tell me the distance by road between two places marked on that map, Thunder Bay and Neskatook (sp?) to the north of it. Nope, no route in a car. Tried walking. Nope, no walking route. Not sure why, presumably it is physically possible to walk there.

But I took that as an indicatation of the difficulty moving around on the ground in "outback" Canada.
